Danchester

About the Comic

I thought it’d be a good idea to go into the Dead Ends universe a little bit, so you know what’s what. If you want to know about the author and about the background to the comic, click About instead.

Danchester is a large metropolitan city located in England.  It boasts a cathedral, three museums, numerous restaurants, bars and chain stores and an old university. Danchester is home to rival football clubs Danchester Rovers and Danchester City, and world notorious Danchester Tigers rugby squad. Danchester has the postcode DC.

Mac and his sister Meryl currently live at number 23 Crane Street in Milton, a suburb just outside the main city.  It’s not a bad place to be; there are numerous pubs within easy reach (the gang generally prefer The Squid and Shoe on Daisy Street), and Danchester city centre is just a 30 minute walk away.  Meryl has just enrolled at the university here, which is a walk into the city and then a 10 minute bus journey out to Coolidge where the uni is based.  Mac works in the city centre at the Venkman National Bank.  He’s worked there for the past year and a half.

Aoefe, Steve and Dave live at 37 Veronica Avenue, a little cul-de-sac in Coolidge. Coolidge is small, but very busy and lively due to the student population.  As such, it’s pretty much a microcity, with many pubs, clubs, a cinema, supermarkets and a theatre. Dave owns a café there, named after himself – more upmarket than your average greasy spoon, it serves as a hallowed cathedral to students after a night out, serving hot food very late.  Aoefe currently works here, helping out with Dave’s busy workload. Steve works in town as a police sergeant.

Claire also lives in Coolidge, in a house left to her by her grandmother, number 16 Championship Way.  She is self employed and lives alone.

Bernard lives in city centre Danchester, in the incredibly desirable Kaufman building.  He is rather wealthy due to his 6 figure job as a Guru for computers. The Kaufman building is the tallest building in Danchester, with a hotel for the first 15 floors, and then private apartments for the next 15.  Bernard lives on floor 28.

Eric and Coop live in a house together, 108 Doakes Street, in Milton.  They are pretty much brothers. They work in Danchester’s Music Town superstore together.

Danchester, I must stress, is a fictional city created entirely from my mind.  I want to make the story and the characters as immersive as I can, and so I start by making the universe realistic.  If you were to send a letter to Cedric MacKilvie, 23 Crane Street, Milton, Danchester, DC7 9AD, it would not be delivered. But heck, try it.  If you send me evidence that you have been so retarded as to post something to this place, I’ll give you a commemorative wallpaper.
